Gordon Kitto Welding Limited was established in 1978.
Initially the company provided specialist welding services in the UK and overseas.
In the early 1980's the company expanded into the field of workshop fabrication and site installation services. The company still operates in this area and has a sound customer base.
The GKW involvement with power generation/distribution, started in 1984 when they became sub-contractors to Emform Limited, providing fabrication work and site installation services. Emform Limited was a company with a worldwide reputation in busbar engineering and was originally a Department / Unit in BICC and then a Company within the Balfour Beatty Group. The working relationship of the two companies successfully continued up to the liquidation of Emform Limited in May 2002. In June 2002, ex-Emform personnel joined Gordon Kitto Welding Limited.
The Management of GKW took the decision to re-structure its business activities and to include busbar engineering to its existing capabilities of fabrication and site installation
During August 2002 GKW purchased the Intellectual Property Rights of Emform Limited and restructured the company to incorporate Busbar Engineering as a key part of the business activities of GKW.

At present GKW operate from its own self contained works in St Helens, Merseyside. The facility contains office accommodation, a fabrication workshop and is the depot for the installation activities of the company.

- supplied equipment or executed site work on 27 power stations in the UK
- fabricated busbars and/ or supplied replacement parts to 5 power stations overseas
- designed and supplied copper and aluminium busbars for a new large chemical process plant
- modified or refurbished heavy section aluminium busbars for 2 aluminium smelters
- continued to provide fabrication work and factory maintenance for prestige clients.
