Modification to Industrial Busbars
Lochaber Smelter, Fort William, Scotland
The purchase of new rectifiers at the smelter resulted in modification to the route and termination arrangements on the aluminium busbars.
The section of the aluminium busbars was approx 600mm x 150 mm and about 80 tonnes of the material was delivered to the GKW works. Cutting, drilling, welding and shot-blasting operations were carried out on the bars before being retuned to Lochaber.

In parallel to this work new termination plates and flexibles were fabricated in the GKW workshop. The GKW installation team, supervised by our Site Manager executed the task of re-routing the existing busbar system to connect to the new rectifiers.
The work involved cutting, re-locating and welding the heavy section busbars before finally terminating the system to the rectifiers.
