Providing an extremely cost-effective alternative to HV cable connections, GKW Busduct is supplied in pre-assembled modules and is ideal for connections between transformer and switchboards, motor drives or generators. Busduct is easy to install and is totally reliable, indoor and out, holding an IP65 rating to BS EN 60529:1992+A2:2013. Aluminium enclosures provide a corrosion resistant housing, which encase the conductors and cast epoxy resin insulators.

Compared to a similarly rated HV cable system, Busduct eliminates the inefficiencies associated with cutting, jointing, terminating and connecting, with no loss of adaptability or performance. Our four main Busduct ranges are designed in compliance with the standards:

BS 159:1992, BS EN 62271-200:2012 and IEEE Std C37.23-2015


Rated voltages for the four sizes are:

  • 3.6kV with a corresponding BIL (Basic Insulation Level) of 40
  • 7.2kV – BIL 60
  • 12kV – BIL 75
  • 17.5kV – BIL 95

Busduct current ratings are based upon a 65oC conductor temperature rise above a 40oC ambient at 50/60Hz. Our standard range covers 500A to 5000A and is designed for a maximum fault level of 50kA RMS for 1 second at 125kA peak.

With ratings between 3.6kV and 17.5kV, Busduct is supplied with either aluminium or copper conductors with specialised accessories available to meet all your individual requirements. Standard lengths of 2.5m, 3.5m and 5m are provided, although bespoke make-up pieces can be incorporated into the system. Corner units can be fitted in either a horizontal or vertical plane according to the location of the equipment you are connecting.


The modular design features are backed up by pre-assembled accessories such as flange expansion units at termination points and through seal “bushings.” The standard supports supplied can be floor or ceiling mounted according to the requirements of the client. GKW experience and technical precision ensures that assembly of the units on site is quick, specific and precise to provide a fully engineered package for electricity distribution in a range of industrial situations.
